Special Edition 2019 – Trauma to Recovery

INTRODUCING 6 WOMEN WHO FOUND THE COURAGE TO SHARE IMPACTFUL ACCOUNTS OF SURVIVAL BY DESCRIBING DEGREES OF RESILIENCE MOST CANNOT IMAGINE COMMITTING TO

These stories of recovery take you from a place of awe and heartbreak to grit and resilience. They inspire you to take action in your life, no matter what is going on for you, to be a better person. Those that dared to share did so with grace, humour, and great self-reflection. As tears streamed down my face, I found myself lost in the stories as they moved from darkness to light. You can find real seeds of inspiration and by just reading one story, you could bloom to a greater perspective in your own life.

RECOGNIZING POTENTIAL, SUPPORTING RECOVERY AND RESTORING LIVES

Karis Support Society offers our participant’s recovery focused programming, counselling and
support. Part of transitioning back into society is visualizing a future beyond addiction.
Launched in April 2017, the Dream Project aims to inspire, support and equip women as they move through the stages of recovery and aims to help women to live a life whereby they are capable of so much more than they believed possible for themselves.
Throughout the year the Dream Project facilitates and supports many of our women on their search for self by inviting inspirational, educational and motivational speakers to discuss topics that interest or inspire them. This includes offering our participants experiential activities which get them out in the community, provide additional therapeutic support, as well as a peer mentor program with past Karis participants.

Author Biography

Diana Reyers is the founder of the movement, Daring to Share. As a creative introvert, she learned early on in life that the ability to belong without succumbing to external expectations of changing one’s inner self was a rare gift only provided to those courageous enough to show up as a reflection of their soul. She had a deep knowing that she didn’t need to heal, she just needed to evolve as her best self, given where she was within her level of personal awareness.
She began storytelling as a young child because it allowed her the ability to maintain her uniqueness while fighting to fit into a world where extroverts are honoured and introverts are shamed. While sharing real-life experiences with others, she found a voice that people listened to and they connected with her stories. Diana used her ability to share her truth in order to feel the love that comes from acceptance and inclusivity. She felt the loving energy of connection and an unconditional sense of belonging.
Diana is a Human Advocate passionate about inclusivity and repulsed by exclusivity. She believes that any form of stigma is fueled by a lack of education and awareness needed to create a world led by loving-kindness, void of the judgment that comes from the fear of the unknown.
