Everything you need to publish your book

We can take your book from manuscript to published and in distribution.

Typesetting / Interior Design

A book’s cover plays a crucial role in enticing potential buyers from the outside, but the inside of your book also needs to maintain that professional standard to create an immersive reading experience.

Typesetting is both an art and a science, maintaining a fine balance between book layout design and structural layout to produce a polished, publish-ready print book for the commercial marketplace. In the eyes of your potential buyers, this gives you a level of professionalism that will instill confidence in buyers.

Here are some of the things we do when typesetting
(print layout design)

  • Chapter heading design
  • font selection
  • text flow with correct indents
  • running headers and footers
  • copyright page layout
  • lists and bullets
  • layout of photos and images
  • front and back matter, including dedication and call to action pages.

Professional Book Layout

Typesetting

Your layout design (typesetting) cost is based on the number of words in your manuscript, and hence the time it takes to lay it all out.
The number of images, charts, and graphics, as well as the intricacies of your layout, can all affect your layout.

We will review your manuscript beforehand and discuss what can and should be done to enhance the look and readability of your book.

Book Cover

We also offer design and layout for a ready to print, full colour cover for your book.

Metadata

MetaData is all the elements of the book that helps your book get found. It is the “packaging” of the book that helps the reader and the book seller to understand what your book is about.

It is not just the cover design but the choice of title, sub-title, headline for the back cover, synopsis, author bio, testimonials and the use of key words in all these elements. People do judge a book by the cover and the book cover design concept takes into account many elements to reflect your branding. We can also work with your own marketing/brand staff to ensure your branding is reflected.

The MetaData includes:

  • Title pages brief including testimonials, preface/prologue/intro/foreword, Dedication, Acknowledgments, Postscript/Afterword, Sales Page, Author portrait, Appendix/Index
  • Interior Design layout personalized for each book including brief and discussion on typesetting preferences, font, heading style, illustrations and charts/diagrams, worksheets, journal notes, spacing, chapter layout, table of contents etc.
  • Amazon and bookstore Book Search Optimization and BISACC Codes. Your book needs to be categorized in the right way for book wholesalers, retailers, online stores, libraries and Universities/Colleges. If your book is not placed in the worldwide distribution system with the right coding, it will not be found.

Content Editing Available

A full content or technical edit includes flow, sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation edits. You will work directly with the assigned editor on suggested rewrites and edits. This process can take up to 6 weeks with two, three, four or more editing rounds. This is a specialized area of editing by an expert in language and the technical side of writing. It is a completely different skill-set to developmental and structural editing and you will see quite different feedback to that which you received at the developmental stage.

Proof Reading Available

A professional proofreader is a different skill set than the content editor. By the time the content editor has tracked changes as they go back and forth, it is likely that new errors might be introduced such as spacing issues or missing words. The proof reader is a new set of eyes on the manuscript and is essential to ensure accuracy and to set instructions for the typesetter.

Canadian Distribution

Your book will be added to various databases such as Bookmanager (hundreds of bookstores subscribe), Library Bound (sells to Libraries), and Whitehots (sells to Libraries and Schools), which are available to all Canadian bookstores.  This is where most small to mid-sized book retailers look for new books. They then contact us directly to buy and ship. We also feature your book on its own page on our website. Our website gives you a place to send buyers. Red Tuque Books is located in Duncan BC and ships from there.

We stock a number of your books on a consignment basis.

It is also important that you are actively soliciting your book. Contacting bookstores, book readings & presentations etc. We sell to all bookstores across Canada and are not able to solicit individual books to thousands of stores. Stores love to hear from the author. Just having a distributor is a big plus for many stores who will only purchase this way.

FAQ’S

Am I giving you the rights to my book if I publish and distribute through you?
No, you keep your rights outright!

What royalty do I make when I sell my book on Amazon or at a book store?
Book stores usually take 40% discount off retail but bigger chains like Amazon, Chapters and grocery chains can take up to 60% discount. That does not leave much left over for the author once you take off the print cost.

Do I have to order a certain quantity of books?
You have NO commitment to buy books from us, unless you want to.http://redtuquebooks.com/jenny-story-outcasts-on-a-distant-moon/
